Two-time Professional Bowl linebacker Shaq Barrett, who introduced his retirement from the NFL in July, has utilized for instant reinstatement, brokers Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey advised ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday.
The Miami Dolphins at the moment maintain Barrett’s contractual rights.
In July, Barrett introduced his retirement saying he was “able to shift my full focus to my spouse and children and serving to them notice [their] goals.”
Barrett had signed a one-year cope with the Dolphins in March after being launched by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a cost-cutting transfer.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel stated Tuesday he was caught abruptly when he realized of Barrett’s need to return this season, and was not ready to touch upon what the staff will do with Barrett. McDaniel stated he had not remained in communication with Barrett since he retired the day earlier than the Dolphins opened coaching camp in July.
“The staff is relying on me to consider the Packers,” McDaniel stated. “I will get with [general manager] Chris [Grier], and we’ll work by that. There is a ton of implications that go together with it by way of staff and roster stuff, so we’ll work by that as we simply received the information as we speak.”
Barrett, 32, spent 5 seasons in Tampa, together with the 2020 marketing campaign that resulted in a Tremendous Bowl title with quarterback Tom Brady on the helm.
Barrett and his household suffered a tragedy in April 2023 when his 2-year-old daughter, Arrayah, drowned within the household’s pool. He returned for the beginning of the 2023 season and registered 4.5 sacks and 52 mixed tackles, together with 33 solo tackles.
An undrafted free agent out of Colorado State in 2015, Barrett has recorded 59 profession sacks over 9 seasons with the Bucs and Denver Broncos, with whom he gained his first Tremendous Bowl title in 2015.
He led the NFL with a franchise-record 19.5 sacks in 2019, his first season with Tampa Bay. Barrett reached double-digit sacks in only one different season: 2021, with 10.
